Divine Deviled Eggs

Mignon Dunbar shares her latest!

The one thing that I love more than making deviled eggs, is eating deviled eggs. This easy recipe will add a little zip to those traditional deviled eggs.

Ingredients:

  • Eggs (hardboiled)
  • Old Bay seasoning
  • sugar
  • Mayonnaise
  • Paprika

Method:

First hardboil your eggs.  Once the eggs are hardboiled, peel off the shell and discard the shell.  Cut the hardboiled eggs in half.  Separate out the yolk into a separate bowl.  Mash the egg yolks.  Mix in mayonnaise (the amount that you put in will depend on your own taste and how many eggs you are making).  Sprinkle in some Old Bay seasoning and sugar.  Again, the amount depends on how much you are making.  For example, for 7 eggs add about half a teaspoon of sugar and a quarter teaspoon of Old Bay seasoning.  The sugar will give the deviled eggs a slightly sweet taste, while the Old Bay seasoning will add the zip! Mix well.  Spoon the mixture or pipe the mixture back into the egg white.  Sprinkle with a dash of paprika.  Enjoy!!!

Step-by-step guide to Making Meringue 2.0

Meringue 2.0 or meringue is a type of dessert, often associated with French, Swiss, and Italian cuisine, made from whipped egg whites and sugar, and occasionally an acidic ingredient such as lemon, vinegar or cream of tartar.

This treat can be enjoyed during the autumn months with a delicious meal to match. Today, I will be teaching you my version of meringue with chocolate sauce and vanilla ice cream.

1.) First make the ice cream. In a small saucepan, heat the cream with the sugar and allow to reduce by half. Leave to cool

  • 750g of cream
  • 180g of sugar

2.)  Transfer the mixture to a standing mixer with paddle attachment and start to mix. Carefully pour in liquid nitrogen until frozen, then reserve in the freezer

3.) Preheat the oven to 85°C

4.) To prepare the meringue, beat together all of the ingredients until stiff peaks form

  • 200g of egg white
  • 400g of sugar
  • 1 pinch of Sarawak black pepper
  • 1 pinch of lemon zest

5.) Transfer the mixture into a piping bag. Line a metal tray with greaseproof paper and pipe circles of the meringue on top, about 10cm in diameter. Bake for approximately 3 hours, then remove from the oven and allow to cool

6.) For the chocolate sauce, place the chocolate and butter in a small saucepan and gently melt. Remove from the heat and whisk until fully combined

  • 100g of dark chocolate, 72%
  • 30g of butter

7.) Spread the chocolate sauce on a serving plate. Lightly crush the meringue, place in in the centre and add the whipped cream and ice cream. Complete with a disc of crushed meringue and a few salt flakes

  • 200g of whipping cream, whipped
  • salt flakes

Once you are done making the meringue, you can pair it with a nice glass of wine to top off the night.

  • 1 (1.27 ounce) packet fajita seasoning

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 10 (10 inch) flour tortillas
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon bacon bits
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Broccoli and Tortellini Salad

A broccoli and tortellini salad is a healthy option to put in your child’s lunch and it’s pretty simple to make!

Check out the list of ingredients below:

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 20 ounces fresh cheese-filled tortellini
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cider vinegar
  • 3 heads fresh broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped

Spinach Roll-Ups

These are easy to make and little snacks or an entire meal. Make a lot the night before and you can use them for multiple lunches!

The ingredients include:

  • 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
  • 1 (1 ounce) package ranch dressing mix
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup bacon bits
  • 3 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 10 (12 inch) flour tortillas

Chicken Chili Soup

Here are the ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 pounds diced chicken breast meat
  • 2 green bell peppers, diced
  • 2 red bell peppers, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen corn kernels
  • 4 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans with liquid
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Peanut Butter and Apple Sandwiches

  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter, or to taste

  • 1 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
  • 1 (8 ounce) bottle Italian-style salad dressing

Explore Chinatown

San Francisco is home to the largest Chinatown in all of North America! Check out their site to learn more about the various attractions and restaurants you can visit. You could easily spend an entire day wandering around Chinatown, so either carefully plan your visit or give yourself lots of time to meander.

 

 Take in the skyline at Grizzly Peak

Hike up to the top of Grizzly Peak, located right behind UC Berkeley’s campus. You’ll be treated to a stunning view of San Francisco. And, if hiking isn’t your forte, you can easily access the peak by using the Grizzly Peak Boulevard.

Visit the Tadich Grill

Head to Tadich Grill for a meal. It is California’s oldest restaurant, located right in San Francisco. The Tadich Grill is a great place to experience authentic San Franciscan cuisine, whether you’re a tourist or a local. The restaurant specializes in seafood, and has for nearly 200 years. Take a look at their menu before you stop by!

With Blurb, books can be up to 440 pages with a soft or hard cover. The program also offers a lot of creative options for layout options and designs. Although this service does not offer stock photos, you can simply upload images from your computer to your account.

Bookemon

With a play on words, Bookemon has numerous size and style options for every professional at home cook. They provide over 150 color choices for text and background as well as 20 different fonts to match.

Recipes can be scanned, pasted, or typed and pages can also be rearranged in order to give your cookbook the perfect look. Bookemon works can range in length from 30 to 420 pages. If you’re looking to create a larger than life recipe book than Bookemon may have what you’re looking for.

Believe it or not, customized cookbook publishers have existed for years, but most have a large minimum number of orders and are best bets for fund-raising events. Today, a crop of publishers let home chefs inexpensively design and create a single book online for their personal use.

For those of you who enjoy “DIY” projects like myself, I wanted to create a series of some of the best cookbook generators that will allow your creative juices to flow.

TasteBook
Launched in 2007, TasteBook is unique from many other DIY companies because it allows users to fuse their own recipes with recipes from other online sources. This site has more than 100,000 recipes to browse as well as books that will make your cookbook project complete!

When it comes to making the cover, there are more than a hundred choices of photos, ranging from tables filled with platters of attractive looking food to a chocolate cake souffle. You can also upload your own photos at no additional cost.

Create My Cookbook
In mid-2008, Create My Cookbook was created as an alternative for personalizing cookbooks to customers liking.

This publishing service offers customers two options for books that are up to 100 pages. Of course the cost increases for books of greater page length but for beginners this site may be just what you’ve been looking for.
